The Snow Globe Effect: Trusting the Process When Life Feels Messy

Snow Globe
Snow Globe

Have you ever felt like life just got you shaken?

Recently, I was talking with my husband, who described this feeling perfectly. He said, “It’s like someone picked up the snow globe of my life and gave it a good shake—everything’s flying around, totally out of place. But eventually, it all settles.”

That image stuck with me. Because whether we’re dealing with a sudden life change, a season of stress, or even just the daily grind getting the best of us—there are times when it really does feel like we’re stuck in the swirl. And when you’re in it, it’s hard to remember that stillness is coming.

The Shake-Up is a Sign

What I’ve learned through life coaching, Reiki, and working with clients through all kinds of transitions is this: the shake-up isn’t random. It’s often the beginning of something.

When the flakes are flying, it may feel like everything is out of control—but it's also when the patterns of the past start to break. It’s where the clarity comes from. We just don’t see it right away.

What If You Didn’t Try to Fix It Right Away?

So often, we rush to "fix" the mess. But what if we allowed the swirl? What if we gave ourselves permission to sit in the flurry, trusting that things will settle?

Here’s what I recommend when you feel like your life is in snow globe mode:

  1. Pause before reacting. Let the snow fall. Take a breath.

  2. Ask what’s being revealed. What truth is rising to the surface?

  3. Support your nervous system. Use grounding tools—breathwork, essential oils, a calming walk, yoga—to ride the wave.

  4. Reach out. You don’t have to navigate the storm alone.

The Calm Will Come

Eventually, just like in a snow globe, everything settles. Not always in the exact way it was before—but maybe that’s the point. Sometimes, the shake-up gives us a new view. A better one.

So if you're in the thick of the swirling snow right now, know this: you’re not broken, and this isn’t the end. It’s just the part where things get rearranged so they can fall into place.
